Heat Treatment Properties of ASME SA335 P91 High Temperature Seamless Alloy Pipe

P91 is an ASME SA335 compliant chromium molybdenum alloy ferritic grade with excellent creep capacity and high temperature resistance.

The metal is normalized at 1050°C, air cooled to 200°C, and then tempered by heat to 760°C. This process is the main reason behind the creep strength and durability of P91. P91 represents a metallic composition of 9% chromium and 1% molybdenum plus vanadium. Chromium increases temperature strength and oxidation resistance. Molybdenum increases elasticity, wear resistance and high temperature creep strength.

Heat treatment of ASME SA335 grade P91 pipe begins with normalizing the pipe at 1050 °C, then air cooling at 200 °C, and tempering at approximately 760 °C. This manufacturing process is the main reason for the good formability and durable strength of astm a335 P91 alloy steel pipe.

Since sa335 P91 grade pipe can withstand high temperature, it is most suitable for steam boiler applications. They can be used in boiler piping, pressure vessels in plant engineering, etc.
